Is Corporate Governance Overrated or Essential for Investors?

I've been diving into corporate governance lately, and I can't help but wonder how much it really matters to us as traders and investors. On one hand, good governance seems like it should protect our investments, but on the other hand, I’ve seen companies that get by just fine without a robust governance structure. What do you all think? Do you look into a company's governance practices before making a trade, or is it just a checkmark on your due diligence list? I’m curious if anyone has stories of how governance (or the lack of it) influenced their trading decisions. Would love to hear your thoughts!
