Is Being a Qualified Purchaser Worth It?

I've been reading up on the Qualified Purchaser status and I'm trying to wrap my head around whether it's actually beneficial for someone like me who's getting more serious about investing. A few friends have mentioned that it opens up a whole new world of investment opportunities, especially with private funds and hedge funds, but I'm curious if the hassle of meeting the criteria is worth the payoff.
