Whats Your Take on Total Return in Investing?

I've been diving into the concept of total return lately, and I’m curious about how everyone else views it. I get that it’s about the overall performance of an investment, factoring in things like dividends and interest, but I’m wondering how much it really influences your trading decisions. Do you track total return closely, or do you focus more on price appreciation?

For those who factor it in, how do you balance it with other metrics? I’ve seen some mixed opinions on whether it’s the best indicator to follow, especially in volatile markets. Would love to hear what strategies you all use and any tips you might have for maximizing total return!

Total return is definitely something I keep an eye on! While price appreciation is exciting, dividends can really boost performance in the long run. I try to look at both when making decisions. In volatile markets, I think having that total return perspective helps cushion the blow when prices dip. Balancing it with metrics like P/E ratio and growth potential has worked well for me. What about others? Do you focus more on one over the other?

Total return is definitely something I keep an eye on, especially when I'm looking at long-term investments. Price appreciation is great, but if I can get dividends or interest along the way, that really boosts my overall gains. In volatile markets, I think it balances things out a bit. I like to look at total return alongside other metrics, like P/E ratios and market trends, to get a fuller picture. It’s all about finding that sweet spot for my strategy!
