Are REIT Common Shares Worth the Hype?

I've been hearing a lot about REIT common shares lately and I'm trying to wrap my head around whether they’re a solid investment. I get that they’re supposed to offer decent dividends and some potential for growth, but I’m curious about what you all actually think.
